Description
The Level 2 Protection Dog Training course builds on the skills developed in Level 1, taking your dog’s protection abilities to the next level. This advanced training focuses on refining your dog’s control, confidence, and threat assessment in a variety of real-world scenarios. If you are new to protection training, we highly recommend starting with Level 1 before progressing to this course, as Level 2 introduces more complex techniques and requires a solid foundation in basic protection skills.
Training Approach
In Level 2, the emphasis is on achieving calm and controlled behavior in public and high-stress environments. Your dog will be trained to maintain focus and composure in busy areas such as parks, shopping centers, supermarkets, car parks, and medical facilities. The goal is for your dog to calmly assess potential threats without becoming reactive, ensuring they act as a confident deterrent without resorting to unnecessary aggression.
This course also introduces more interactive exercises with decoys to enhance your dog’s protective instincts while keeping their responses controlled and measured. We build on the principles of food drive and play drive learned in Level 1, using these motivators to further develop your dog’s focus, confidence, and ability to handle stress.
Course Highlights
Advanced Public Obedience: Train your dog to remain calm and composed in various public settings, including busy streets, crowded parks, and commercial areas, maintaining focus and control at all times.
Enhanced Threat Assessment: Improve your dog’s ability to identify and react appropriately to potential threats, teaching them to remain alert but calm, responding only when necessary.
Controlled Protection Response: Refine your dog’s ability to bark on command at potential threats while maintaining control, acting as a deterrent without escalating to physical confrontation.
Decoy Interaction: Introduce your dog to basic decoy exercises, focusing on play-based engagement with the decoy. This helps your dog understand the dynamics of a potential threat without resorting to biting, preparing them for more advanced scenarios in future training levels.
Understanding Stress and Control: Learn how to read your dog’s stress signals and maintain calmness in high-pressure situations, ensuring your dog stays confident and responsive to your commands.
Preparing for Level 3: Lay the groundwork for Level 3 training, where more advanced protection techniques, such as controlled biting on command, will be introduced. This preparation ensures your dog builds the necessary confidence and composure for future advanced protection tasks.
